1. What do termites look like?
The Eastern Subterranean Termite, which is the most common in North America, comes in different castes (workers, soldiers and swarmers). Workers are small 1/8-inch long, cream colored and no wingless. The soldiers are wingless, cream colored with large mandibles and brownish head. Swarmers(alates) are dark brown to almost black about 3/8″ long with translucent wings equal in length.
2. What does termite damage look like?
Subterranean termite damage looks like galleries that go along with the grain of the wood, typically with the presence of soil.
3. How much damage can termites do?
A mature termite colony can consume 2 1/3 linear feet of a 2″x4″ pine board in 1 year.
4. What is the difference between termites and ants?
Subterranean termites live deep underground and consume wood, while ants nest in the wood and consume sugars and proteins. Termite and Ant swarmers (alates) can be distinguished by their antennae, bodies and wings. Termite swarmers have straight beaded antennae, broad bodies and wings equal in length, while ants have smooth elbowed antennae, bodies with narrowed waist and forewings longer than e hindwings.
5. How much is a termite treatment?
Subterranean termite treatment costs can range from a couple hundred dollars to several thousand dollars, depending on factors like severity of infestation, treatment methods and size & complexity of the structure.
6. What is the best treatment for termites?
